Sound of Football Podcast 308 - Homage to Catalonia
Should football and politics be separated? Can it even? Last weekend, Barcelona played their home match against Las Palmas behind closed doors after La Liga refused a postponement due to the civil unrest surrounding the government breaking up an independence referendum. The decision sent a powerful political message in a time where politics is never far from anything.
Could a similar furore to that of the NFL players protesting against racially motivated police brutality soon be seen here in Europe? Could we see Catalan players "taking a knee" during the Spanish national anthem in this weekend's World Cup qualifiers?
Graham, Terry and Jan are on hand to discuss all this and more, including FIFA's recent reversal of its stance against poppies.
