Sound of Football Podcast 267 - Men against bees
This week saw the start of the newly revamped Football League Trophy. Usually this would be greeted with about as much excitement as the start of a new bus timetable but this season an ill-conceived decision to include U23 sides of clubs in the Premier League and Championship has thrown the spotlight on this tournament for all the wrong reasons.
To discuss the topic, Gary Andrews, makes a welcome return as a guest on the podcast, standing in for Jan who is still on holiday. All of which will make familiar listening to those who also listen to the Oddjobpod, which Gary, Graham and Terry are the regulars on.
Gary brings his views as an Exeter City fan — a club that voted for the changes but has since had cause to doubt that decision. Boycotts, under-strength sides, blue-sky thinking and the England set up are all discussed, and we manage to do this with only one slightly oblique reference to James Bond.
